Itsma in ETB

Mi primer post por aquí!!

Llevo en este país más de 6 meses (lo cuál me parece increible!! 6 meses ya!!). En este tiempo han pasado muchas cosas, pufffff, por dónde empezar a contar?? en un post no puedo comprimir ni una pequeñísima parte de esto, bueno, tampoco es el objetivo, no??

Llegué aquí a finales de enero para estar de becaria en una empresa india. Meses después... he acabado en otra! 

India es un país distinto, costumbres diferentes, formas de pensar y actuar extrañas, impredecibles y hasta ilógicas... para los ojos de una occidental, claro!

Las ideas que traes de antes... son eso, ideas. Luego te das cuenta de que hay que desechar eso, abrir los ojos y simplemente ver qué te encuentras, vivir el día a día con la mente lo más abierta que puedas. 

No siempre es fácil. A veces... te estresas, te desesperas, no entiendes... otras dices, ey!! esto es India, no puedo razonarlo en base a mis criterios occidentales. Hay mucho más que esto. 

Sea como sea... India me gusta (tanto como a veces me desespera). Estar aquí, sin duda, lo considero toda una experiencia. Durante estos 6 meses he aprendido mucho, durante los próximos 5 que me quedan sé que voy a seguir haciéndolo. 

It's been a long time since the last post I hope now others will also join me in writing cause otherwise it will look like my personal blog.

Well, during this time lots of things happened. First of all two people of the office are not with us anymore. First it was Agnes, our college of EuroIndia Research, then Alex, the italian trainee. But then we had Paola joining us, she is one of the basque girls that came with Beñat, Begoña, María and me to Bangalore in January but instead of coming to Itsma's office she was sent to a software company. Then Mamatha got married and in a couple of weeks Saurobha will do the same.

At the beginning of July the people from Gaia, the assotiation who sent us here came here to participate in a conference on construction sector. Unfortunatelly I couldn't attend it cause I was in the Basque Country for a week. The reason is that I had a examn for the Spanish Institute of Commerce Icex so that I might get a job after I definitelly return from india at the end of october. Here you have a picture of San Sebastian, my city, wichever beautifull places there are in India (and I have seen many) there is nothing comparable to this :-)


I also include some picture taken from different trips I've made during the last months. Those include the beach of Gokarna, mountains around Chickmalagur, Hyderabad, Pondicherry and finally Mumbai whose Colaba area is takes you back to the time of the British rule in India.

A week ago some pople from the basque television ETB came to Bangalore to interview Paola and me. They were interestend in knowing what where we doing here and also about the situation of ICT in the city. They're supossed to air it some day in the news. Wow, I think I'll became very famous in my country, before coming here some articles with images were published in some local newspapers, then every month I give an interview in a reginal radio and now this ...

Moto trip/Hampi/Kochi

It's obious that we didn't come to Bangalore just to do the internship. From monday to friday we spend our time working in the office but we also make plans for the weekend so that once we finish our labour we can explore the beauties of India. Until now bus has been my way of transport but once I bought my royal enfield I started using it to get to different place. We picture below was taken three weeks ago in a trip to a small village in the way to Mysore. I went with Alex from Itsma and Ibai, another basque guy that is working in Bangalore, each is his motorbike to enjoy the nature outside the big city. There was a fish-camp in there but we didn't book it in advance so there wasn't much to do there, just relaxing.

The next picture was taken in our trip to Hampi two weeks ago, well actually this one is from Badami another vilage we wisited before reaching Hampi. I went with Beñat and we finally got the sensation of being in India. It's a small town full of indian temples and ruines but also a place full of nice views. The funiest thing was the we went on Holy day, a religious festival where indians paint themselves, so the faces and bodies of everybody were in diferent colours.



An this final picture is from the most recent trip. I went to Kerala with Beñat, María and Begoña. We just got two days and as we never plan anything at all we had to come back without seign many places. At least we could enjoy backwaters.

Office lunch at Euskal Etxea

We were four people arriving at the same time (plus a spanish guy a week before) to an 15 emplyee office that was still moving from another place. That made a bit difficult to start knowing each other rapidly so we decided to organize a office lunch at out apartment, Euskal Etxea.

Below you have a picture taken in that moment. Everything went all right, nobody disliked the European food (of course veg) we prepared and actually we also celebrated Begoña's, Ismael's, Jenarden's and Sourabha's birthday.

VALORACIÓN DEL PRIMER MES

Bueno os escribo para pasaros el primer "informe" mensual de lo que estoy haciendo. Como ya sabeís empecé con la redacción de la solicitud de una subvención a la Comisión Europea, para conseguir financiación para "Club España". Fue un poco mucho para empezar y no creo que lo hiciera nada bien por que no he visto que hayan seguido trabajando en ello. También hay que tener en cuenta que Surbhi no se encontraba aqui los primeros días y que estaban en pleno traslado de la oficina. Después de aquello y cuando vino Surbhi, nos reunimos todos con ella y nos asignó a cada uno diferentes trabajos. A mí me ha tocado hacer una especie de estudio de mercado sobre el aceite de oliva y el vino en India. Surbhi tiene intención de importar aceite y vino a granel desde España y montar una cooperativa para embotellarlo aqui y de esta manera crear puestos de trabajo. Y en eso estoy ahora, buscando estadísticas en internet, buscando información sobre aranceles, impuestos etc. También tengo que ir a unos cuantos supermercados de Bangalore a hablar con los responsables de compras para hacerles ciertas preguntas, como cuanto aceite/vino venden y ese tipo de cosas. Por ahora bastante agusto.



A parte del trabajo, ya podemos decir que nos hemos instalado definitivamente. Me refiero a que ya tenemos casa, ya hemos hecho todo el papeleo de la policia etc. Yo incluso me he alquilado una moto, por que estoy hasta el moño de los conductores de rickshaw, y tengo intención de comprarme una más adelante. No hemos viajado demasiado hasta ahora, solo hemos hecho una pequeña escapada a Mysore hace tres fines de semana. El fin de semana pasado Raji nos dijo que teníamos que hacer acto de presencia en el festival de lenguas extrangeras de la universidad. Fuimos allí y al final Raji nos enganchó para quedarnos todo el día en el stand de Club España, nosotros le dijimos que no había ningún problema, que ya nos ocupabamos nosotros de todo, ya que ella tenía un par de reuniones, pero que a cambio nos tenía que dar un día de fiesta (ya hemos aprendido a negociar como los indios) y ella dijo que perfecto. Hemos cogido fiesta el lunes que viene y nos vamos a Goa el fin de semana. Me encanta la comida, cada vez me gusta más, y siempre que puedo como en la oficina. Hasta ahora no hemos tenido mucha relación con los compañeros de trabajo, por que estamos todos los elkanotarras en la misma parte de la oficina, separados de los demás, pero Surbhi ya nos ha dicho que nos va a mezclar entre todos, y nosotros hemos invitado a todos a comer a nuestra casa el viernes que viene para conocernos más. Eso si, con Janardhan que es el "office boy" si que hemos tenido mucho trato, por lo menos yo, por que me ayudó a alquilar la moto y en otras cosas, y como es de la edad y tal pues tengo más trato con el. He ido una vez al médico por que tuve anginas, y el seguro funciona perfectamente. Llamé al número de la tarjeta y me pusieron en contacto con la responsable de Bangalore, que me mandó un taxi a buscarme a casa para llevarme al hospital. Allí me encontré con ella, que se encargo de todo el papeleo y yo solo tuve que esperar a la consulta. El hospital estaba muy bien, como cualquiera de allí. El médico me recetó antibióticos y los compré con mi dinero, pero como el seguro los cubre la responsable me mandó a un chico con el dinero a la oficina y yo le entregué la factura. Y no se que más contaros, todo perfecto por mi parte, estoy muy contento tanto en el trabajo como fuera de él.

International Language Festival

We had plans to go to the Fireflies Festival of Music outside Bangalore on saturday and karting for sunday. Finally we did none of the them, we're getting impatient to start doing activities and tourism. We intend to go to Goa next weekend, let's see what happens, I know it would take us time before we can arrange this kind of things instantly but right now it's kind of fustrating not to know how to make plan in here.

Anyway, at leat we participated in the Intrnational Language Festival in Bangalore. We just stayed in a stand showing some lefelets and brochures about Spain, we had not much to say as Club España is not yet complete stablished but I think we had success promoting it as many indians came to ask about that.
